Bount is remembered in particular for his travels in Turkey, published as A VOYAGE INTO THE LEVANT (London, 1636). He was recognised by Charles I, being made a gentleman pensioner to the king and knighted 21 March 1639. During the Civil War he was a committed royalist, attending the king at York and fighting in the battle of Edgehill. However, at the start of the interregnum he switched sides, serving on the Hales commission for the reformation of the criminal code and on the trade and navigation committee. At the Restoration he supported Charles II.
