Harold Norse -- poet, critic and essayist -- was born in New York in 1916 and educated at Brooklyn College and New York University. Norse's book of poems, The undersea mountain, was published in 1953. Since then he has published 6 volumes of poetry and a book of essays, Beat hotel (1975) in German. His work is also represented in many anthologies and in periodicals. Norse lived in Morocco, Greece and Western Europe for 15 years from 1953, and returned to the United States (California) in 1968.
