Henry Alexander Scammell Dearborn (1783-1851), son of Henry and Dorcas Osgood Marble Dearborn, was born in Exeter, N.H. He attended Williams College and then William and Mary College, where he graduated in 1803. He practised law in Salem, Mass., and Portland, Me. In 1806, he was appointed to superintend the erection of forts in the Portland harbor. On the completion of these works, he became an officer in the customhouse at Boston, Mass. In 1812, he was appointed collector for the port of Boston, becoming also brigadier-general of militia in charge of the defenses of the port. He retained his position as collector until 1829, after which he held a series of public offices.

Dearborn was born in Exeter, New Hampshire, the son of General Henry Dearborn. From 1812 to 1829 he was Collector of the Port of Boston. He died in Portland, Maine.
