University of Chicago. Dept. of Medicine.
The department of medicine at the University of Chicago was founded in 1927, as a department in the division of the biological sciences. Although it was created after his death, the department was influenced by the vision of University president William Rainey Harper. He sought to bring the traditional medical school into the university system. The department of medicine encouraged its faculty to focus on scientific research and teaching.
