William Eden (1744-1814) was a British diplomat who entered the ministry of William Pitt as a member of the newly established Committee of the Privy Council on Trade in 1785. As part of his program, Pitt conceived of a commercial treaty with France. He sent Eden to Paris as a special envoy. Negotiations were concluded at Versailles where a treaty was signed on September 26, 1786.
