Biographical Note: George Ernest Barnett was a professor of economics at The Johns Hopkins University.

He was born in 1873. He received his Ph. D. from Johns Hopkins in 1901 and spent his entire academic career in the Department of Political Economy at the university. Along with Professor Jacob H. Hollander, he taught the Economic Seminary which studied the trade-union movement in the United States. Barnett edited "A Trial Bibliography of American Trade-Union Publications" in 1904, and co-edited "Studies in American Trade Unionism," 1906. In 1909. Barnett was in charge of a study for the National Monetary Commission, and in 1913, he directed an investigation for the United States Commission on Industrial Relations. In 1932, Barnett became president of the American Economic Association. George Ernest Barnett died in 1938.
