In 1756, Sir George Pocock (1706-1792) who had been serving in India under Charles Watson since 1754, was promoted to vice admiral. After Watson's death, he took over and commanded the British naval forces during the Seven Years War. Popock returned to England in 1760, and in 1761 was made a Knight of the Bath and admiral. In 1762, he commanded the naval forces at the siege of Havana (1762, June 7 - Aug. 13). Pocock resigned his commission in 1766.

Sir George Pocock, British admiral, entered the navy in 1718. In 1738-1744, during the War of Jenkins' Ear, he served in the Mediterranean fleet of Rear Admiral Nicholas Haddock. In 1744 he convoyed the African and East Indian trade, and in 1745-1748 served in the West Indies. From 1748 to 1752 he lived in England. In 1756 he was promoted to Rear Admiral of the White, then Vice-Admiral, and in 1757 assumed the chief command of the East Indian squadron. In 1761 he was promoted to Admiral of the Blue and was made a Knight of the Bath. In 1762 Pocock was appointed commander-in-chief of the successful expedition against Havana, Cuba, with Lord Albermarle in charge of the land forces. Pocock retired from service in 1766.
