Tana Hoban was born in Philadelphia and has made her career as an author, illustrator, photographer and artist. She has written and illustrated (often through photographs) over 50 books for juveniles. Her instructive and entertaining books explore colors, forms, shapes, and textures of everyday objects and incidents that tend to get overlooked due to their familiarity.

Tana Hoban is a children's author and illustrator, a photographer and artist. She was a visiting lecturer at numerous schools throughout the United States (1974-84), but moved to Paris, where she continued to work. She has received gold medal awards from Chicago Art Directors (1958), New York Art Directors, and Philadelphia Art Directors (both 1962, 1963). Among other awards she received are the ALA Notable Book ((1979, 1981, 1983, 1985), New York Times Best Illustrated Children's Books of the Year (1972,1988 ), Boston Globe/Horn Book Special Award (1985), Special International Award of Geneva for body of work (1987), and many others.
