Association for World Education; an international, non-governmental, voluntary organization of individuals and institutions; incorporated in New York State in 1970 as Association of World Colleges and Universities (AWCU); changed name to Association for World Education (AWE) in October 1974; AWCU was proposed by Morris R. Mitchell in the 1960s as an accreditation agency for world college programs; promotes and encourages all types of innovative educational programs with a world perspective.
