Edward Jenner was an English scientist who is credited with founding the practice of immunology. His greatest work was in developing a method for smallpox inoculations. William Clement was a physician in Shrewsbury who worked with Jenner on a smallpox vaccine. He was also the father of local politician, William James Clement.

According to a letter from William LeFanu to John F. Fulton, 13 January 1956, the recipient was the wife of the first Earl Ducie. Her eldest daughter, Lady Mary Moreton married the 7th Earl of Denbigh in May 1822.
