Gérard Deschamps was born in 1937 in Lyon, France and is a contemporary artist. A self-taught man, Gérard Deschamps began frequenting the galleries of rue de Seine in Paris early on. He exhibited as soon as 1955 and gave up oil painting to dedicate himself to collage, incorporating pictures of objects. In 1960, Deschamps met Hains et Villeglé, and officially joined the group of the New Realists in 1961, one year after its official creation. Gérard Deschamps then specialized in compostions including rags, women's underwear and Japanese industrial fabrics.
