Mulligan, James Adelbert, 1830-1864

Lawyer; clerk at the Department of the Interior beginning in 1857; Colonel of the Irish Brigade (23rd Illinois regiment) during the Civil War. At the Battle of Lexington, Missouri, in 1861 he was taken prisoner, only to be freed through an exchange later that year. He was fatally wounded at the Battle of Winchester, Virginia, in July, 1864.
