Born in Innsbruck, Austria, and educated at the Univ. of Göttingen, Neugebauer joined the faculty of Brown University in 1939, teaching the history of mathematics until his retirement. In 1950 he became a Member with Long-Term Appointment in the Schools of Historical Studies and Natural Sciences, The Institute for Advanced Study, Princeton, N.J.
