Peg Kehret (pronounced "carrot") was born November 11, 1936, in La Crosse, Wisconsin. She began her writing career in 1973, and has received numerous awards. Her prolific output for children focuses on thrillers and mysteries, but includes other genres as well. Her own favorite work, Cage, deals with the work of the Humane Society, one of the author's own personal interests. She has also written Small Steps, a documentation of her own personal fight with polio when in 7th grade.
