Actor Peter Finch was born in Britain and came to Australia at the age of nine. He worked at a variety of occupations such as newspaper copy boy, hawker and artist's model before he began his theatrical career in the early years of Australian radio. Before the second world war, he appeared in several Australian films until Lawrence Olivier encouraged him to try the British theatre. He left Australia for London in 1949 where he had many stage and film successes until his death in 1977.
