Greeley, Helen Hoy, 1879-1965

Helen Hoy Greeley was born Jan. 20, 1878 in Albany, New York. She received her law degree in 1903. Greeley was an early and significant voice in the suffrage movement. In 1913 she helped create the Rainbow Campaign. She is well known for her campaign in 1918-1920 to obtain rank status for army nurses. In the 1920 and 1930s Greeley was connected with the Interorganization Council on Disarmament, and the Women's Consultative Committee on Nationality created by the Council of the League of Nations. She also worked for the US Department of the Interior and the War Department in the 1940s. She lived in Louisa County, Virginia and died Nov. 21, 1965 in a nursing home in Charlottesville, VA
