Fysh, Wilmot Hudson, Sir
Variant namesSir Wilmot Fysh, K.B.E., cr. 1953, D.F.C., F.R.G.S.A., F.R.Ac.S., M.Inst.T., was born in Launceston, Tasmania in 1895. He was a founder of Qantas in 1920. He was Managing Director of Qantas 1923-1947; Chairman and Managing Director 1947-1955; member of Executive Committee of I.A.T.A. (International Air Transport Association) and President for 1961-1962; Chairman of Qantas Empire Airways Ltd. and Qantas Wentworth Holdings Limited from which he retired in 1966. He was awarded the Oswald Watt Gold Medal for service to aviation.
