Forester and environmentalist. Founder in 1980 and director until 1993 of Walden Forever Wild, a Concord, Mass., organization devoted to turning Walden Pond State Reservation into a national or state sanctuary in memory of Henry David Thoreau in order to restrict public access and to protect Walden Pond and the surrounding area. Born Mary Elizabeth Pasco in Hartford, Conn., 1906. Graduate of University of Connecticut, 1935, later of Cornell. Nursery keeper. Plant researcher at University of Florida, Gainesville, during 1950's. Moved to Concord, 1958. Member of Thoreau.
