Hide Profile

The Laura Spelman Rockefeller Memorial was formed in 1918 by John D. Rockefeller and was named by his late wife. Intended to contribute realistically to improvements in public welfare, the LSRM operated from the office of John D. Rockefeller, Jr. with a fluid program until 1922, when Beardsley Ruml was named director and developed a long range program. In 1929, the LSRM was consolidated with the Rockefeller Foundation and made a final grant of $10 million to the Spelman Fund of New York to continue still active LSRM grants that the RF could not programatically administer.
