Gottfried August Bürger was a German poet, translator, and educator. His rather unconventional lifestyle is reflected in his poetry, perhaps especially his influential poem of the supernatural, Lenore. He also translated Shakespeare, Homer, and others, and worked on the Baron Münchausen stories. He taught aesthetics at the University of Göttingen.
