Anna Gurney, daughter of Joseph John Gurney (1788-1847), travelled from her native England to America with her father.

They left England in July 1837, visited also Canada and the West Indies, and returned to England in August 1840. The anti-slavery sentiments of her father, and the Caribbean portion of their trip, are documented in his: A winter in the West Indies, described in familiar letters to Henry Clay of Kentucky / Joseph John Gurney (Winterthur call number: RBR F1611/G99).
