Edward Bulwer Lytton, English novelist, playwright, and politician, was a popular writer in Victorian Britain. He attracted general attention with Pelham (1828) and reached the height of his popularity with Godolphin (1833), followed by The Pilgrims of the Rhine (1834), The Last Days of Pompeii (1834), Rienzi (1835), and Harold: Last of the Saxon Kings (1848). He was a member of Parliament in 1831-1845 and 1852-1866, was created a baronet in 1838, and was raised to the peerage as Baron Lytton in 1866.

Biography

Edward George Earle Bulwer Lytton, 1st Baron Lytton of Knebworth was born on May 25, 1803 in London, England; attended University of Cambridge; in 1828 published first successful novel, Pelham ; entered Parliament as a Liberal member for Lincoln in 1831; retired in 1841 in protest against the repeal of the Corn Laws; became a Tory and was returned to the House in 1852 as member for Hertfordshire; continued to publish novels, including Eugene Aram (1832), The Last Days of Pompeii (1834), Harold, the Last of the Saxon Kings (1848), The Caxtons (1849), and My Novel (1853); he was created a peer in 1866; died on January 18, 1873 in Torquay, Devonshire.

Thomas A'Becket, Sr. was an actor, musician and writer in the Philadelphia theatre from 1840 to 1889. He acted for both the Arch Street Theatre Company and the Walnut Street Theatre Company though the greatest portion of his time was spent at the Walnut. He acted there 1841-1842;1845- 1847; 1849-1855. After this time he seemed to travel, taking acting jobs in Chicago, St. Louis and other Midwestern cities. A'Becket was known as a major player in the Walnut Street Theatre and played many roles among them Polonius in HAMLET. A'Becket was born on March 17, 1808 and died in Philadelphia on January 6, 1890.

Thomas A'Becket, Jr. was a musician who worked in the Philadelphia area performing in concert ensembles. He also gave music lessons on a daily basis. He was born June 19, 1843, the oldest child of Thomas A'Becket, Sr.
